Competition Report: Scottish Closed 2007

Although I say it myself,  this years "Closed" was quite magical.  A new venue, new champions and a large enthusiastic audience who enjoyed a three course meal, three comps, two demonstrations and plenty of general dancing..Dancesport International very kindly donated shoe vouchers for competitor and raffle prizes, The Marriott Hotel donated a hotel voucher as a raffle prize.  The  event was supported by the Sports Council for Glasgow and the programme was sponsored by Scottish shoe suppliers "Lets Dance Quick, Quick, Slow"

Results in Brief

The Closed Modern Championship winners were Tibor Poc and Hilary Mouat from Edinburgh. 

The Closed Latin Championship was won by the ever popular and far travelled Robin and Marianne Sudell from Kenilworth, who were delighted at regaining this title. 

Winners of the Closed Senior Modern Championship were an equally delighted Ewan and Julia Wallace from Aberdeen, with runners up Jim and Laura Carroll, third place went to Stephen and Angela Hardy, fourth were Alex and Audrey Hamilton, fifth -  Sid and Lorna Overton and sixth - Tom and Kay Morton.

Demonstrations

The first demonstration of the evening was by Alan and Norma Millar. Alan and Norma had turned professional last year after winning the Closed Senior Modern Championship 21 years in succession and it seemed right to invite them back to delight the audience and have the floor to themselves. I am sure they were quite nervous dancing in front of this large "well kent" audience in home ground however it certainly didn't show and they gave a beautiful dem with Norma in stunning dresses looking as glamorous as ever.  The main dem of the evening was Alex Ivanets and Lisa Bellinger-Ivanets, who had just flown in from competing in Holland the previous night.  What energy this young couple have. It is quite astounding.  Alex entertained the audience well in between Lisa's many costume changes.  Their dem was part traditional Latin and part showcase which was so exciting.  They finished their dem with their version of an excerpt from the musical Chicago which had the audience cheering for more.  Well done Alex and Lisa.
